Minister Norma Foley together with Minister Jerry Buttimer have announced the launch of My Little Library Initiative 2026.

Starting school this year?

The Minister for Children, Disability and Equality Norma Foley – TD together with Minister of State at the Department of Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht Jerry Buttimer have announced the launch of My Little Library Initiative 2026.

Children finishing pre-school and beginning primary school are invited to visit their local library and collect a free My Little Library book bag.

Available since Friday, 8 May and throughout the summer, the bag includes books to keep, tips for parents, and a special wallet for a new library card. Families are warmly encouraged to join the library.

Book bags are available in English and Irish and are designed to help children and families with the transition to primary school.
