Down Syndrome Ireland’s Nicola Hart, National Research and Support Specialist, and Amanda Murphy, Early Years Intervention Specialist, took part in the first consultation with the Department of Children, Disability and Equality on the development of a proposed Access and Inclusion Model (AIM) for children aged 0–3 in early learning and childcare settings.

During the consultation, Nicola and Amanda shared their expertise and the lived experiences of children with Down syndrome and their families, highlighting the barriers they currently face and the supports required to ensure the proposed model is inclusive and responsive to their needs.

This very positive consultation brought together a number of organisations advocating for children and families, including AsIAm, Enable Ireland, ADHD Ireland, Heart Children Ireland, Cerebral Palsy Foundation and ChildVision.

This was the first of a number of planned consultations, and Down Syndrome Ireland looks forward to continuing to engage with the Department throughout the development of the model.
